ABOUT US: PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

September 2009

Throughout this edition of Up Here you will see a focus on sports and athletics and get a sense of the importance of these things to northerners. As we face the end of the lazy days of summer and the beginning of a new school year it is once again a time for many children and youth to rejoin their classmates in some healthy competitive activities.

Canadian North has always been an enthusiastic sponsor of sporting events in all the communities we serve. We do this because we believe in the importance of physical activity for overall well being. To that end the Champions for Children, PlayFare and KidSport Programs, to name a few, are initiatives we have been a part of over the years in order to give as much access as possible to youth and sport. In addition to the health benefits, our support for events such as the Yellowknife Midnight Golf Tournament has the added advantage of showcasing the unique offerings of the North. While I am always amazed at the number of people who come from outside the Northwest Territories to participate in this exciting event, the attendance at this year’s tournament by Hall of Fame golfers and the subsequent article by Rick Young (reproduced in full in this edition of Up Here) will no doubt go a long way to exposing others to this beautiful part of our country and to the people who call it home. Perhaps this publicity will inspire many to visit the North for the first time or return to see us again.

So, as we all settle in for the long winter that is about to descend upon us I thank you for your patronage because your support for our airline will continue to translate into support for sport in the North.

Travel well.
Tracy Medve
