Student Travel Tips
The ticket to better air travel is being well prepared. The following information is a guideline to make your next adventure, as a student standby traveler, even more enjoyable. Getting checked in:
- Have Picture ID that includes your date of birth is required at the ticket counter.
- Ensure your return portion of your ticket is kept in a safe place. If you lose it, you will be required to purchase a new ticket in order to travel.
- Check-in at least one hour before your flight is scheduled to depart. Regular free baggage allowance and restrictions apply.
Unaccompanied Travel by Children
At Canadian North children who are at least five years of age and have not yet reached their 12th birthday may travel on their own as Unaccompanied Minors. Canadian North's primary concern is the protection of your child and the safe delivery at their final destination. An Unaccompanied Minor Form must be completed by the child's parent or guardian prior to acceptance for travel. The adult bringing the child to the airport must remain with the child until the child has enplaned and must remain in the airport until the flight has departed. Unaccompanied minors must be met by a designated parent or individual with proof of identification. Canadian North will:
- Verify that the flight on which the child is confirmed is operating as scheduled. If it is expected to divert to another airport, Canadian North will assist in making alternate arrangements for the child's travel.
- Ensure completion of required documentation
- Assign seating convenient for Flight Attendant supervision
- Identify your child to the gate agents and flight attendants, and we will provide an ID Tag to be worn by your child at all times
- Pre-board your child
- Provide a special child's meal, only if requested
- Escort the child to the arrivals area at the destination and release child to designated person only upon verifying picture ID and receiving their signature. A fee of $40.00 is charged for this service.
Infants
A child under 24 months of age may travel free of charge provided they are travelling with an adult and are seated on the adult's lap while onboard the aircraft. Newborn infants (7 days or younger) will be accepted for travel only upon the completion of a T43 Incapacitated Passenger Declaration Form or doctor's certificate clearing them for travel. For more information, contact Canadian North Reservations at 1-800-661-1505.
